I know you're not into Anime, but the 'Ghost in the Shell Movie #2' came out about a year ago. In it they talk about how culture is an extension of our DNA; unencoded rituals, exercises, and behaviors passed down from parent to child, enforced on each other by our own cultures that can give us certain advantages. Just another form of information.
